May Long Weekend Camping Trip/Trail Ride
May 21-24, 2010 Long Weekend Camping Trip/Trail Ride at Horse Creek Ranch for CLSC (www.cookinglakesaddleclub.org) and Alberta Trail Riders (www.atra.ca) members only! Lease horses may go on this trip, anyone under 16 must have adult supervision. To book cabins or power sites contact www.horsecreekranch.ca or separate pens for horses, contact Barb at 434-2000. Horses from Colchester can go in a group pasture. Trailering cost for this weekend is $147 (GST included) per horse, based on full trailers. Limited trailering space available, first come first serve, based on deposit cheques received (post-dated May 1/10 for full trailering amount payable to Lisa Friedenberg.) Of course if you have your own horse trailer, you are welcome to attend. No shoes on horses are required for this ride as it is mainly in the sand hills. Cost for the weekend for camping is $18/unit and $18/person for use of bathroom/showers/etc (doesn't matter if you use them or not), and $18/horse and $18/dog -must get permission from ranch to bring dog now. Please read new campground rules. Bring your own tent/camper/food -- anyone coming alone, or without a camper, can join Lisa for group food, but she doesn't have time to organize for everyone. Colchester will supply cubes, but you need to have your own container to haul them and feed tub --15 scoops of cubes (1 large rubbermaid) for 1 horse for the weekend. They now have 15 sites with power and water, for an extra $18 for the weekend. This year, CLSC will be collecting money ahead and giving Siebe one cheque, so if you give cheques to Lisa, payable May 1st to CLSC, she will get them to Barb. Cabins and pens booked up in January last year, so don't wait until the last minute.

Just a reminder that the barn closes at 9 pm Sundays and 10 pm other days.
The barn furnaces have been turned on, so please make sure the barn doors are kept tightly closed. However the furnaces may be turned off during the day if it is not too cold outside and there are no horses in the barn.

Arena heaters are also available for use; please remember to sign out key and return after you are finished. Make sure you always manually turn them off, otherwise the heaters will turn back on when the temperature drops below 0 degrees celcius and will run all night. The spectator heater runs separately, does not have a key, and should only be turned on if there are spectators in the arena.

Blanketing is the responsibility of boarders, not staff (unless you pay extra for this service for inside horses). If you need a blanket taken off or put on and you can't make it out to the stable, you can try phoning Lisa. If she has time she can do it, but will charge $5 to catch your horse. Any horses found sweating from overblanketing will have their blankets removed and the owners will be charged the $5. If your horse doesn't wear a blanket you don' t have to worry about any of this!

No feed is to be stored in lockers or barns or fed on barn alley as it attracts mice. Please store and feed outside. This includes treats. As the weather gets colder the mice are going to move in the barn, and its hard to poison them when they have so many better things to eat in everyones lockers! Please keep your lockers clean.
